However, there is no need to ask anyone to know about your EPFO balance. As there are quite a lot of ways available out there which let you know about your balance instantly. So the question is, How to Check EPF Member Passbook Balance?
Well in this article, I will be talking about this only. There are quite a lot of methods available such as Umang App, EPFO Member e-Sewa portal, SMS, or a missed call to know the PF member passbook balance.
So let’s just go ahead and check these methods one by one.
How to Check EPF Member Passbook Balance?
1. Check PF Balance Using EPFO Portal
Using the EPFO portal is one of the easiest ways to know your balance. However, before you go ahead and proceed with it. You need to make sure that your employer has activated your Universal Account Number or UAN.
The UAN is a unique number assigned to all the employees enrolled under the EPF scheme. Also, a UAN number is allotted by the Employee Provident Fund Organization (EPFO).
Also, you should know all the employees should have only one UAN during their working life despite working with different companies. Once your UAN number is activated, you can follow these steps:
Step 1: First of all, log on to the EPFO portal.
Step 2: Then go to Our Services tab and choose the option that says “for employees” from the drop-down menu.
Step 3: Next, click on the option ‘Member passbook’ under the option “Services.”
Step 4: Now, a login page will appear. Over here, you have to enter your UAN number and password after it has been activated.
Step 5: Once you are logged in, you will now be able to access your EPF account and know the balance.
2. EPF Balance Check by Sending an SMS
You are only allowed to access your EPF balance via SMS if you have integrated your UAN number with your KYC details like Aadhaar, PAN, or Bank account.
Once you have integrated your UAN number with your KYC details, do follow the below steps:
Step 1: At first, send an SMS to this mobile number: 7738299899.
Step 2: You need to send the message as EPFOHO UAN ENG.
Also, you will have to set your preferred language for communication. You can easily do so by using the first three characters of your preferred language.
For example, use the first three characters of the word English like EPFOHO UAN ENG – where ENG stands for English.
However, if you want to receive messages in different languages like Hindi, then send an SMS by typing EPFOHO UAN HIN.
Also, the SMS service in available in languages like English, Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Bengali.
3. PF Balance Check by giving a missed call
You can also know about your EPF balance by giving a missed call to the authorized phone number from your registered mobile number.
However, the service is only available once you have integrated your UAN to your KYC details. In case if you are not able to connect your KYC details to UAN, then do seek help from your employer.
Once the UAN is integrated with your KYC details, you will need to follow the below steps:
Step 1: First of all, give a missed call to 011-22901406 from your registered mobile number.
Step 2: After giving a missed call, you will receive an SMS that will include all the PF details.

4. PF Balance Check using the Umang/EPFO app
To check your PF balance, you can also use the Umang app. But first, you will need to make sure that your employer has activated your UAN number.
If your employer has already done so, then you can download the “m-sewa app of EPFO” from Google Play Store.
Once downloaded, do follow these steps:
Step 1: Once the app is downloaded, launch it and tap on Member, then go to ‘Balance/Passbook’.
Step 2: After that, you have to enter your UAN and registered phone number. Then the system will verify your mobile number and UAN. If all the details provided are accurate, you will be able to view your updated EPF balance details. In case of a mismatch, it will display an error.
Also, you should know that recently the Electronics and IT ministry has launched an app called Umang. With the help of this app to you can access different services like Aadhaar, gas booking, crop insurance, NPS, and EPF. Also, check out How to Download e-PAN Card Online?
As a result, the app can also be used for checking your PF details. Once the app is installed, you will find the EPFO option from the app’s homepage under the head “Employee Centric Services” option and access your PF account details. Also, the app is available on Google Play Store.
